The standard historical sources have, of course, been used in the development of this web site.  I am trying to build up an electronic full-text collection of these (see the hyperlinks in the left hand margin).  For the first time this should allow these sources be electronically searched (use the 'search' page available on the 'home' page of this web site if you want to search the entire site or use 'edit/find' on the toolbar of your browser to search through the text on just one page).  The standard historical sources which are available on this web site are:

• 1811 Manning and Bray's The History and Antiquities of Surrey
• 1853  A description of Chobham and its history, extracted from a publication of written by Charles MacFarlane 'The Camp of 1853'
• 1902-12 The Victoria County History of Surrey

The excellent Surrey History Centre in Woking is a good source of material - for Chobham contents you can search their Archives Index Database online.   Go to www.shs.surreycc.gov.uk.

Much of the material in this site grew out of an adaptation of the author's contribution to the 1985 booklet 'Chobham, A Heathland Village' which is available from the Chobham Society (click on 'Chobham Today' for Chobham Society contact details).  The book gives an overview of Chobham, past and present.  It has many illustrations and useful maps, not all of which can be reproduced successfully on a web site.  If you would like a copy of this book, then please send a cheque for £2.50 and a SSAE to the Chobham Museum, Benhams Corner, Bagshot Rd, Chobham, Surrey.

	Joy Mason permitted me to include extensive extracts from her book 'Cebba's Ham; The Story of Chobham'. 	The booklet "I Remember Chobham ....." , by Gill Willis is dedicated to Chobhamers both past and present who have watched our village change from a rural gem until the end of the 20th Century. It contains some excellent photographs and wonderful first hand memories of life in Chobham. 	This souvenir issue of the Parish Magazine was delivered to every home in Chobham.  It gives a brief history of Chobham and contains some wonderful reminiscences and photographs.
	Published in 1989, this is probably the most carefully researched and extensive history of Chobham so far produced.  During his retirement, Robbie devoted 12 years to studying every ancient document relevant to Chobham.  What is really useful is that Robbie reproduces each document reference in full.  It is particularly strong on Chobham family trees.  However, it is not an easy read! It is now out of print, but sometimes Mimbridge Antiques have copies.

	Early Medieval Surrey: Landholding, Church and Settlement before 1300 by John Blair A study of institutions and the economy in Surrey during the early and central Middle Ages. The themes discussed include the manorial structure, agrarian growth, field systems, parish churches and the parochial system. Price £8 to members; £10 to non-members (+£2 p&p)
