THE CHOBHAM SOCIETY

The Chobham Society was founded in 1970 and welcomes as members anyone who wishes to preserve the amenities of the area - in particular the heritage of interesting historic houses, the appearance of the village itself and the beauty of the surrounding countryside.

Its aims are to maintain public interest in the village and promote high standards of planning, and thus protect and where possible improve features of historic and public value.

The Society acts as a watchdog by monitoring local planning applications, and by making independent representations as necessary. The Society's views were actively expressed during the formulation of the current Local and County Structure Plans, and in some measure helped towards the acceptance of Chobham as a settlement within the Metropolitan Green Belt - a unique position for this area.

Members receive a newsletter and at the Annual General Meeting have every opportunity to voice their opinions. The Committee meets monthly and sends representatives to the Chobham Common Preservation Committee and to Chobham Parish Council planning meetings.

Working parties undertake practical work in the village.
